Haha oh man. I’ll start by apologizing for writing such a short letter last week. I still have the same amount of time, but man, the computer i got stuck with last week really caused some problems for me! But I got the sweet computer today, so we’re good now.
So my life as a missionary is pretty different now. I’m now stressed about 12 areas instead of just 3 haha. Last week we did a multi zone with another zone because as a mission we are doing a little project to work together in zone teams. Every zone has another zone as a teammate and both zones have baptism goals for the change and both zones work together to try and reach the goals. If they reach them, there is a reward, a lunch with mission pres in regular people clothes. We’re doing really good right now in our team, and even though the change ends Feb 18, between dates and baptisms, we have exactly the number wanted. Just gotta keep working hard!
My first zone meeting really worried me. It was a capitation and was supposed to last 3 hours. I feel like it went pretty well though and we were able to finish the meeting with a cake.
It’s funny how often i eat cake here, even though i’m not a huge fan.
Last Monday for a zone activity we enjoyed a long slip n slide. We went to another chapel, bought a tarp, soap, etc, and enjoyed the slip n slide. It was pretty fun but sucked near the end of the activity because i realized i didnt have any dry, clean clothes by the time i got home.
Right now we are visiting a few really positive people. We put a baptism date with this kid named M. on Tuesday, which was a miracle. He had gone to church like 8 times before so it was a big miracle that we were able to put the date with him for the 25. But. Yesterday he has his interview for his baptism and tells the missionary he didnt want to be baptized. What the heck?! They finished the interview and he passed with flying colors and he knows everything and believes the church is true and everything but doesnt want to get baptized. He says he doesnt have the desire yet. He’s gotta be delaying the baptism for some problems with sin he’s had in the past, because there’s no question of family support or testimony that the church is true. Kind of frustrating.
We are also teaching a family, A. and Z. They are AWESOME. They both have assistance’s to church and want to get baptized, but they have to get married. We had a pretty sweet lesson with the bishop last week about marriage and a couple sick lessons with the stake patriarch and so we’re getting really close. I shared the scripture from 1 Ne 3:7 last night, and A stops me while i am talking and says, ”oh, i know that scripture. that is when Nefi and his brothers are commanded to go back to retrieve the plates from the king, right? what’s his name? Laban?” A. is a stud.
We are also teaching the son of a pastor (inactive member) who is also the nephew of the stake president, and his cousin who is the son of a pilas member that was just reactivated by my comp last change. They are planning to go to church every week and are awesome dudes. We should put the date with the cousin tonight, but with the son of the pastor would be a little harder because we’d have to have the pastor sign the baptism registry to baptize him.
Overall, i’m doing really good. Working really hard here in the mission, enjoying every second of it. I’m learning more every day and am growing a lot of patience and love serving the people here in Chalchuapa hoping to see the results in my area, zone, family, and self.
